About MeMy name is Helen Smith. I was born in South Dakota, but raised in Manistee Michigan, right on the edge of Lake Michigan. In 2008 I graduated with my Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After graduation I took my first teaching position in Bangkok, Thailand at an American International school. For my first two years at the International Community School of Bangna (ICS), I taught 7th grade science. I then moved to 2nd grade in 2010, wanting to return to my elementary ‘roots.’ In 2010 I also started my Masters program through Michigan State University, focusing on science and mathematics, as well as incorporating technology within the classroom. Teaching at ICS has been an amazing experience because of being able to teach so many different cultures within one classroom. The challenge of this environment, as well as the high expectations from parents, encouraged me to start my Masters program. If you would like to learn more about my school, please visit their website at: http://icsbangkok.com/. Prior to teaching in Thailand, Canada was the only other country I had visited outside of the USA. Since being in Thailand, I have definitely caught the travel bug, visiting other countries in Asia and Europe as often as possible. Below are some pictures from my random travels around the world. |
